摘要 PURPOSE: To realize a projection display device excellent in a display characteristic by preventing the incidence of a reflection luminous flux due to a boundary between a polarizing plate or a λ/4 plate and air onto a liquid crystal panel and making the luminous flux projected on a screen or the light incident on an optical multiplexing system linear polarization. CONSTITUTION: Related to the projection display device, this device is provided with a light source 1, a modulation optical system 3 for modulating the luminous flux outgoing from the light source 1 based on a video signal by using the liquid crystal panel having the polarizing plate on the outgoing surface, a first phase difference plate 7 provided on the outgoing side of the polarizing plate 4 for making the luminous flux of the linear polarization passing through the modulation optical system 3 circular polarization, a second phase difference plate 8 provided on the outgoing side of the first phase difference plate 7 for again making the luminous flux of the circular polarization passing through the first phase difference plate 7 the linear polarization and a projection optical system 2 for enlarging and projecting the luminous flux of the linear polarization passing through the second phase difference plate 8, and the reflection light returning to the liquid crystal panel is prevented, and the projected luminous flux is made the linear polarization.
