PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for driving an electro-luminescence display device are provided to reduce the power consumption by performing a data conversion process, a pulse width conversion process, and a frame frequency conversion process when the amount of electro-luminescent cells is more than the predetermined value. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for driving an electro-luminescence display device includes a scan driver, a data driver(36), a data counter(32), a data converter(34), and a timing control portion(30). The scan driver is driving a plurality of scan electrodes. The data driver(36) is used for driving a plurality of data electrode lines. The data counter(32) is used for counting input data in order to decide a data conversion coefficient. The data converter(34) is used for converting the input data when the data conversion coefficient is more than a predetermined value in response to the data conversion coefficient. The timing control portion(30) controls each driving time of the scan driver and the data driver(36) and supplies the data.
