A method of limiting access to a wireless data network to nodes located in a defined operational area. When a a network signal is transmitted within the defined operational area, a signal designed to cause destructive interference with the network signal is transmitted into an area adjacent to the defined operational area. The signal designed to cause destructive interference may be produced by phase and/or amplitude modulating the network signal. The modulation of the network signal may include sweeping the phase and/or amplitude. By this means access to the network signal outside the intended service area is prevented.
