PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas purifying catalyst where pore diameters of a porous body, which is an absorbing agent, can suitably absorb various hydrocarbons different in molecular diameter discharged when engine starts, an exhaust gas purifier and internal combustion engine using the catalyst, and an exhaust purifying method.

SOLUTION: The exhaust gas purifying catalyst gas a porous hydrocarbon absorbing material and a metal carried by the hydrocarbon absorbing material. In the molecular radius RHC of a hydrocarbon, the pore radius RZ of the hydrocarbon absorbing material having micropores of a diameter larger than the molecular diameter of the hydrocarbon, and the ion radius RM of the carried metal, R calculated by R=RM/(RZ-RHC) is 0.05-0.70.
