Two opposing pairs of splicing bars are positioned one above the other and move between a lower position for gripping band edges and an upper free position. The splicing bars have teeth and teeth of both opposing pairs of bars are staggered relative to each. In addition the teeth on the pair of lower bars(5a,6a) are staggered relative to those on the pair of upper bars. Teeth are trapezium shaped and are complementary to the gaps between them. Teeth on bars above one another are staggered. Only one of the lower splicing bars moves horizontally and both are positioned below the transporting plane of band sections being spliced. Neither lower bar can move vertically. Horizontal movement of the splicing bars is effected by a single stage hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder against springs between each pair of bars. Lower bars are mounted on a fixed table(4) and the upper pair of bars on a vertically movable plate. |
