APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR DETECTING TOXIC MATERIAL WITHIN WATER USING A MICROORGANISM FUEL CELL

PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for detecting toxic material within water using a microorganism fuel cell are provided, thereby cheaply and sensitively detecting toxic material. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for detecting toxic material within water using a microorganism fuel cell comprises a water sample inlet pump(1), a first water sample treating tank(2), a second water sample treating tank(3), a water sample collecting vessel(4), a solenoid valve(5), a microorganism fuel cell(6), a water sample outlet(7), a tap water chamber(8), a tap water exit(9), a voltmeter(10) and a controller(11). A method for detecting toxic material within water using a microorganism fuel cell comprises the steps of: measuring electrochemical signals produced from a microorganism fuel cell; introducing a water sample into the microorganism fuel cell; and measuring a change of electrochemical signals from the microorganism fuel cell.
