PURPOSE: An information terminal for a vehicle and a controlling method thereof are provided to show the information of oil exchange necessary for maintaining the vehicle to a driver at any time and accordingly to keep the vehicle at the best condition. CONSTITUTION: An information terminal for a vehicle is composed of a CPU(Central Processing Unit) for computing the traveling distance by receiving a pulse signal from a sensor that outputs a predetermined pulse signal to the rotations of wheels of the vehicle and a memory device for saving the computed traveling distance. The CPU compares an oil-exchanging period with the traveling distance and outputs a signal for claiming the exchange of oil if the traveling distance is over the oil-exchanging period. A method for controlling the information terminal comprises steps of receiving a speed pulse signal outputted from a traveling distance sensor(S101); computing the traveling distance of the vehicle by accumulating and counting speed pulse(S102); comparing the computed traveling distance with the exchange period for various oils(S103); and continuously displaying the claim for the exchange of oil until the oil of which the computed traveling distance is over the exchange period is exchanged(S104).
