Risers (3) are installed sequentially, partially reducing buoy (2) ballasting. This occurs after installing the first riser, and before or during installation of those following. Intermediate de-ballasting takes place between installation of each riser and corresponds with the immersed weight of the riser about to be, or just suspended. The buoy is horizontally compartmentalized. Intermediate de-ballasting takes place at the compartment associated with the riser weight to be counterbalanced. All production risers of the configuration are placed successively. The risers are hung on the exterior of the buoy. The compartments are radially-divided. An Independent claim is included for a corresponding configuration.
