The present invention provides a method and system (10) for monitoring a site (12), the method including: monitoring the site (12) for the occurrence of predetermined alarm condition; responding to the alarm condition by capturing a packet of alarm data; transmitting the packet of alarm data to at least one remote location or to a communications network for transmission to the at least one remote location in response to the alarm condition; and transmitting a signal to the user (22) indicating that the alarm condition has occurred.
