BACKLIGHT ASSEMBLY AND LCD USING THE SAME

PURPOSE: A backlight assembly and a liquid crystal display device using the same are provided to minimize the length of lamp wires which apply power to a lamp to supply light to liquid crystal, thereby reducing the entire volume of the LCD. CONSTITUTION: A backlight assembly includes a light guide panel(280), first and second lamps(210,220), a discharge voltage supply(230), a lamp connection element(240), and a receiving container(260). The first and second lamps are in the "L" shape to face each other and respectively supply lights to first and second sides(281,282) and third and fourth sides(283,284) of the light guide panel. The lamp connection element is formed of a conductive material and connects a first electrode(214) of the first lamp to a third electrode(224) of the second lamp. The lamp connection element compensates a first AC power applied to the first lamp in a first phase with a second AC power applied to the second lamp in the second phase. The first and second phases have a phase difference of 180°, thereby making a voltage level '0' as if the first and second electrodes are grounded.
