The use of a derivative of vinblastine, 3', 4'-anhydrovinblastine (AHVB), in the treatment of cancer in a mammal is provided. AHVB is found to be effective in the treatment of advanced and metastatic cancers. Effective dosages of between about 2 and about 30 mg/m<2> are provided.
