Sun visor for a motor vehicle comprises at least one retractable blind for covering the upper region of the windscreen (1) which is designed as a slatted blind (2) having several slats (4) flexibly joined together. The slatted blind is guided and supported by a guide (7) in a region lying above the windscreen. When the blind is lowered the slats covering the upper region of the windscreen mutually support each other. When the slats are lowered into a region lying below the guide, connecting parts pivotably or displaceably mounted on the slats are pivoted or moved by a stationary operating device into a position interacting with the adjacent slats. When the slats are raised into a region guided by the guide the connecting parts are pivoted or moved into a position set back from the adjacent slats.
