<p>Hollow metal racquet frames internally lined with a resin, pref. incorporating fibres of glass, C or B in an epoxy or polyester matrix. The cpd. may be consolidated against the metal walls by inflating a flexible rubber or plastic tube temporarily led through the hollow frame. The temp. cycle used to cure the binder resin may also be used to temper the (Al) alloy used for the frame. Esp. for mfr. of racquets for tennis or similar sports, to obtain the stiffness and durability of a metal frame with the weight of a thin-wall tubular frame and the vibration damping characteristics of the resin lining.</p> |
