PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for crushing and recovering self- hardening casting sand agglomerate capable of effectively crushing and recovering the agglomerate in an simple apparatus arrangement. SOLUTION: The method for crushing and recovering the self-hardening casting sand agglomerate comprising the following steps: a step of dumping ceramic balls with a diameter from 20 to 60 mm into a cylindrical container at whose bottom portion a wire mesh having sieve opening of 2.0 mm or less is arranged in such a quantity that one layer or less is formed in the container; a step of dumping the sand agglomerate into the container into which the balls are dumped, a step of crushing the sand agglomerate into sand by collision and abrasion actions or others of the ceramic balls and the sand agglomerate with each other by vibrating the container into which the ceramic ball and the sand are dumped using a vibrator; and a step of releasing and recovering the crushed sand from the above wire mesh.
