PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for performing tests during an operation of an open ring optical network.

SOLUTION: The method and system for performing tests during an operation of the open ring network include a process for opening a ring of the network on a certain node. Traffic propagating on the ring is given to the node corresponding to a monitoring element prior to the open of the ring in the node or in opening the ring. The monitoring element inspects a signal received from the ring. When the ring is opened during an inspection, the traffic is continuously communicated between the individual nodes of one ring or between individual nodes in a second ring for connecting the nodes of the network.
