PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnetic recording medium having excellent running properties and durability. SOLUTION: The surface of a protective film 4 on a magnetic layer 3 is top-coated with an aromatic amine or an aromatic carboxylic acid and a lubricant containing an ester compound of a perfluoropolyether having a hydroxyl group or a carboxyl group at a terminal of its chemical structure and a long chain alcohol and a perfluorocarboxylate is used.
