PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable an audio device to automatically discriminate the category of audio data and record it as extended information added to the audio data by detecting and analyzing the frequency characteristics, distribution, period, etc., of reproduced signals of the audio data. SOLUTION: Comparative reference data of the frequency characteristics, distribution or period, etc., of audio data is stored in advance by a plurality of categories. When audio data is reproduced, the frequency characteristics, distribution or period of the reproduced audio data is detected. The detected data of the frequency characteristics, distribution, or period is compared with the comparative reference data, and the degree of matching by each category is obtained, according to which the category is determined.
