The roll-on applicator for cosmetics or ball-point pen comprises a ball (4) which fits into a socket (1) at the top of the liquid reservoir. A flexible membrane (5) across the socket which has a central bore (7) supports the ball so that it is normally pressed against the rim (6) of the socket and seals the reservoir, but allows liquid to flow when pressed down. At least three studs (8) on the upper surface of the membrane act as levers to release the membrane form the ball and also center the ball.
