PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform shading correction corresponding to each output form which has been impossible by conventional correction, though correction becomes necessary as inclination (shading) of pixel output levels occurs in divided imaging areas 1A, 1B of a solid-state imaging element 21. SOLUTION: A control unit controls a CDS circuit so that the OB signal levels of the channels ch1 and ch2 in regions 31A, 31B, 32A, 32B near a screen center of vertical OB areas 3, 4 have the same value between the channels. Using as a correction value, a value obtained by dividing the difference between a VOB signal level near the screen center, and an added and averaged value of individual OB signal levels of horizontal OB areas 2A and 2B, by the number of horizontal pixels in one line of the divided areas 1A, 1B, addition or subtraction is performed for each channel separately by a unit of a specified number of horizontal pixels of an input signal, with respect to image signals, OB signals, and pilot signals. Consequently, the output level characteristics of the divided imaging areas 1A, 1B of the element 21 are approximately flattened. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
