PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stringed instrument which enables a player to easily and finely adjust intervals by making variable the lengths of the effective vibration sound producing portions of strings directly contributing to the sound production of the stringed instrument. SOLUTION: A Taisho lyre 10 comprises including a base 13 for extending the four strings 11 in a lateral direction, a stationary string saddle 16 fixed onto a base 13 to receive the strings 11, and a movable string saddle 17 disposed on the right end side of the base 13 to receive the strings 11. The movable string saddle 17 comprises an auxiliary bridge 29 fixed by means of screws 27, etc., onto the base 13 and an adjusting bridge 30 attached relatively movably to the auxiliary bridge 29 along the extension direction of the strings 11. The lengths of the effective vibration sound producing portions are varied by moving the adjusting bridge 30 along the extension direction of the strings 11 by fingers, by which the intervals of the Taisho lyre 10 can be adjusted.
