PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller for an electric opening/closing device, which can prevent a hindrance to an opening/closing operation by correctly obtaining data on a present position even if the data on the present position are not stored in a nonvolatile memory on the occurrence of a reset. SOLUTION: A microcomputer 14 makes a discrete value of a counter 19 stored as the data on the present position in an electrically erasable and programmable read only memory (EEPROM) 18, in accordance with the detection of power shutdown by a power shutdown detecting circuit 17. On switching on a power supply, the data on the present position are set in the counter 19 when stored in the EEPROM 18; and when the data on the present position are not stored in the EEPROM 18, the present position is controlled by continuously using the data on the present position, which are retained by the counter 19, in accordance with the retention of a value predetermined by a register group 21.
