<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transflective liquid crystal device capable of enhancing light utilizing efficiency at the time when transmission display is performed. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device 10 is provided with an elliptically polarized light incidence means by which elliptically polarized light is made incident into a liquid crystal layer 30 respectively from an upper substrate 21 side and a lower substrate 11 side. A cholesteric color filter 12 having plural kinds of cholesteric reflection layers reflecting at least one portion of circularly polarized light having a prescribed rotating direction of a prescribed wavelength region, a semitransmission reflection layer 14 consisting of a cholesteric reflection layer reflecting a portion of circularly polarized light having a prescribed rotating direction and transmitting a portion of the circularly polarized light and a color filter 15 having plural kinds of color layers transmitting light having a prescribed wavelength region and absorbing the rest are provided on the inner surface of the lower substrate 11 successively from the substrate side. Each cholesteric reflection layer of the cholesteric color filter 12 reflects at least a portion of light of the wavelength region absorbed by the corresponding color layer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
