PURPOSE: Provided is a therapeutic composition which contains the lower alcohol insoluble extract fraction of Hovenia dulcis Thunberg or polysaccharide fractions separated therefrom, as an active ingredient, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. It is useful for the prevention and treatment of liver disease, such as hepatitis, fatty liver, liver cirrhosis, fatigue removal, and hangover. CONSTITUTION: A therapeutic composition is characterized by containing the lower alcohol insoluble extract fraction of Hovenia dulcis Thunberg or polysaccharide fractions which are separated therefrom and consist of mannose, glucose, galactose, ramanose, arabinose, xylose. It further contains a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The lower alcohol is preferably methanol, ethanol or their mixture.
