The fluidized bed cooler has at least two fluidized chambers, each separated by a weir wall (1). The weir walls are tubular membrane walls (4) with a fire-resistant concrete cladding (5). The preferred assembly has three chambers and two weir walls, with a heat exchanger in one or more chambers as an evaporator (3). Steam is fed through the tubular membrane walls, to pass to a superheater (2).
