PURPOSE: An accompaniment device by an external device of the Karaoke and a method for controlling performance are provided to realize various performances by installing a MIDI interface, a selector for selecting Karaoke sound or accompaniment sound of an external MIDI instrument, and a tool generating/outputting the Karaoke sound from the selected instrument sound data to the Karaoke. CONSTITUTION: A key input part(1) selects a song and a performance mode. A controller(2) performs song selection and controls the performance by the internal/external MIDI data. An accompaniment storage(3) stores the internal MIDI information. The interface(4) inputs the external MIDI data to the controller. An external MIDI input device(5) includes a microcomputer(5a) and the interface(5b). A sound source(6) generates a Karaoke sound signal according to the internal/external MIDI data. A tone storage(7) provides instrument sound information to the sound source. A sound output part(8) outputs the instrument sound output from the sound source. An image processor(9) processes caption data output from the accompaniment storage. An image display(11) displays the caption data output.
