Fluid for cleaning refrigeration equipment comprises a mixture of a cleaning oil and a liquefied carrier gas that expands to form a cleaning foam. Independent claims are also included for: (1) cleaning an element of a refrigeration unit by creating a foam from a cleaning oil and a miscible liquefied gas, circulating the foam through the element and extracting the foam; (2) apparatus for cleaning an element of a refrigeration unit as above, comprising a source of cleaning fluid, means for recovering the cleaning fluid, conduits connecting the source to an inlet of the element, conduits connecting an outlet of the element to the recovery means, and valves controlling the connections.
