The flange joint (13) comprises upper and lower flange half-sections which can be joined together to define a passage for locating the gas spring (10). A locking ring for fixing the gas spring into position engages with a corresponding groove (14) extending around the gas spring. The locking ring is provided with a fixing part for applying a clamping force around the gas spring when the flange half-sections are joined together.
