PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To read a signal in which color mixing is suppressed and which has high color separability and low noise, when the signals are read from a plurality of layers of photodiodes. SOLUTION: A photoelectric conversion element comprises a plurality of first conductivity-type photoelectric conversion regions and a plurality of second conductivity-type photoelectric conversion regions of conductivity-type reverse to that of the first conductivity-type photoelectric conversion regions, laminated alternately so that the first conductivity-type photoelectric conversion regions are formed in a depth suitable for mainly photoelectric conversion of a plurality of lights, having different wavelength bands and signals of the respective wavelength bands are output. The conversion element further comprises a plurality of charge storage parts formed on a surface region of the first conductivity-type photoelectric conversion region for storing charges obtained by photoelectric converting in the first conductivity-type photoelectric conversion region, and an output part for converting the charge transferred from the charge storage part into an electrical signal and outputting the signal.
