PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent occurrence of an economical disadvantage and technical trouble caused by the control program of an old product rewritten by the control program of a new product in the optical disk drive the control program of which is rewritable. SOLUTION: A memory area other than a memory area 17D storing the control program, e.g. a memory area 17C storing control parameters stores recording speed information that is referenced by the control program to control the recording speed. The control program includes no recording speed information. Even when the control program of the old product is rewritten into a new program, the recording speed of the old program remains as same as that of the old product, the old product is not operated equally to the new product, and the technical trouble due to an exceeded speed can be avoided.
