PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a client terminal with a small memory capacity can not perform image display corresponding to a user's request because the memory capacity overflows while the user browses images. SOLUTION: In an image processing method and apparatus for decoding and displaying inputted encoded data, the upper limit value of a data size to be stored in a memory that stores fragmented encoded data constituting image data is set (S802), and whether the inputted encoded data can be stored in the memory is determined on the basis of the data size already stored in the memory, the upper limit value, and the data size of the inputted encoded data (S804). If it is determined that the inputted encoded data can not be stored in the memory, a region to be deleted in the image data of the data stored in the memory is determined and data included in the determined region to be deleted is deleted for each fragmented data as a unit (S805).
