PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder thinned and miniaturized on the whole by skillfully arranging its components. SOLUTION: In a composite machine 1, a drive motor 38 for scanning a close contact type image sensor 45 of a scanner 30 stands by the side of an engine 14 an ink jet printer 3 partly overlapped in the height direction. An ink jet cartridge 18 is disposed below a paper feeder 5 and the drive motor 38. The ink jet printer 3 and the scanner 30 have their respective components disposed in mutual extra spaces, this thinning the shape of the composite machine 1 as a compact structure. A main board on a base of the printer 3 and the drive motor 38 for scanning the image sensor 45 are disposed at distant positions on the machine 1 to suppress the noise caused by the rotation of the motor 38 on the main board to a minimum.
