EXTERNAL ELECTRODE FLUORESCENT LAMP FOR BACK LIGHT

PURPOSE: An external electrode fluorescent lamp is provided to maintain a uniformity of the luminance by minimizing the electrode portion covering both ends of the fluorescent lamp. CONSTITUTION: An external electrode fluorescent lamp(10) comprises a glass tube(11) having an inner wall coated with a fluorescent layer, and which is filled with a discharge gas; and an electrode arranged symmetrically at both ends of the glass tube. The electrode includes an end electrode(13) covering both ends of the glass tube, and an auxiliary electrode(14) extended from the end electrode along the outer surface of the glass tube. The end electrode has a length of 1.5cm or shorter measured in the lengthwise direction of the glass tube. The auxiliary electrode has a length of 15% or shorter of the total length of the glass tube in the lengthwise direction of the glass tube.
