The device (2) is designed as a cylindrical container (6) with a removable plug (4) at the top and an outlet (8) at the bottom (10). When a plunger (18) with a helical spring (20) enveloping its upper end is pulled, its conical tip (16) closes the outlet (8) while the salt (14) is given access to the measuring chamber (12). By pushing the plunger (18) downwards the salt (14) can be dispensed through the now open outlet (8) which is automatically closed by the forces of the spring (20) when the handle (21) is released.
