A network cable is provided with a transmission line (21) and two module plugs (22). Also included is a number of display- or indicating-lights (23) installed in the module plugs, two control lines (24) running from the module plugs and two electric adapters (25) provided at the ends of the test lines (24) to one side of the module plugs. The electric adapters each have a receiving connector (26), an engaging connector (27), and a test circuit which can receive an external current supply via the engaging connector (27) or the receiving connector (26) and can ascertain the connection and operating status of the transmission line (21) between computer and network.
