NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (m is 3 or 4; n is 0 or positive integer). USE:Since the compound has highly selective coordination capability, it can be used as a selective absorbent for potassium salt or a component of a potassium- selective electrode. The presence of reactive amino groups in the compound enables the synthesis of various derivatives according to the use. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be prepared by reacting the formyl benzocrown ether of formula II with the diamine compound of formula III, and hydrogenating the resultant Schiff base-type biscrown ether of formula IVwith a hydride such as lithium hydride.
