During a camera operation an unoccupied motor vehicle seat is automatically moved into a position to minimize an exposure area hidden by the seat. At the end of the camera operation, the seat is automatically moved into its original position and has sensors to determine mechanical resistance during its movement and to emit a signal corresponding to the level of a resistance value. An Independent claim is also included for a method for monitoring a motor vehicle's interior by means of a camera.
