The electric fence energizing device (10) has terminals (220) connected to a 230 V alternating current supply. They are connected to a voltage doubling circuit (20) with capacitors (21,22) and diodes (23-26). The output of this circuit is connected via capacitors (30,35) and diodes (60,110) to the primary (75) of a pulse transformer (70). The main secondary (77) is connected to the electric fence. A measuring system has a small secondary (78) connected to a control circuit (120). The fence circuit incorporates a further transformer (190), a full wave rectifier (200), an alarm circuit (155) and an indicator circuit (150).
