A binding apparatus for binding a plurality of pages with a U-shaped channel member. The binding apparatus includes a deforming mechanism to deform the U-shaped channel member to secure the plurality of pages into the U-shaped channel upon an application of a binding force to the deforming mechanism; a force applying mechanism to position the deforming mechanism in a preparatory position adjacent the U-shaped channel and to subsequently apply the binding force to the deforming mechanism; and a coupling mechanism to couple the deforming mechanism to the force applying mechanism; wherein the deforming mechanism comprises a cylindrical cam, a cam jaw coupled to the cylindrical cam, and an adjustable jaw.
