A bicycle wheel has a rim which in cross-section has two inner parallel sidewalls (32, 42) with outward-directed extensions (40, 34) linked by inner (12) and outer (14) cross-pieces. The inner cross piece (12) is esp. narrower (B2) than the outer (B1) cross-piece. The wheel rim sidewalls present a V-shaped profile to matching brake blocks with cantilever operation.
