The method involves a radiation source (1) sending radiation onto the surface with the coating (12), a radiation receiver receiving radiation reflected from the surface and measuring the thickness of the coating by measuring the degree of glare using the received radiation. The radiation from the source is polarized perpendicularly relative to the plane of incidence. This polarization is identical to that of an analyzer in front of the receiver.
