<p>Swinging gas spring provided so that, even in a "rod up" position, oil or another liquid is durably confined against the conventional seal surrounding the piston rod at the outlet of the cylinder. A secondary annular seal (42) which also surrounds the piston rod (5) is associated to said seal (2) of the rod guiding bottom (1) on the inner side and spaced from the latter in order to delimit therewith an inter-seal space (61) which is filled with oil each time the gas spring is in a "rod down" position and which retains said oil thus effectively trapped when the gas spring is "rod up", the piston (3) or its rod (5) being to this effect integral with a cam means (31) which, when at right angles with said secondary seal (42), spaces apart its internal lip from the surface of the piston rod (5), thereby providing a free passage for the oil along said surface towards said inter-seal space (61).
