PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid crystal display device having no light leakage, high contrast, excellent display quality and a high visual field angle. SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing a substrate for liquid crystal display device, on which a protrusion for liquid crystal divided alignment is formed, is characterized by containing a stage for forming the protrusion by exposing and developing a photosensitive resin via a mask having a pattern corresponding to the protrusion and gradation of light transmittance in the pattern.
