摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a single-layer carbon nanotube, by which the single-layer carbon nanotube can be formed by controlling its diameter without using a porous material as a catalytic carrier or micro particles as a catalyst. SOLUTION: This production method comprises forming the single-layer carbon nanotube by a thermal decomposition in a gaseous phase. The combination of a metal catalyst having a catalytic effect and a single crystal substrate having a crystal axis and grain size corresponding to the metal catalyst is used for the growth of graphite. The metal catalyst is dispersed on the single crystal substrate, and the graphite material is supplied in the temperature range of 500°C or higher to form the single-layer carbon nanotube having the controlled diameter.
