PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an organic clay which has a laminar crystal structure, has sufficiently widened interlayer distances and facilitates the intercalation of new organic compounds, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: This organic clay is produced by inserting a middle molecular polymer between crystal layers. Concretely, a semi-dried organic clay is mixed with the middle molecular polymer preliminarily dissolved in an organic solvent and then dried and crushed to obtain the organic clay facilitating the intercalation of a new organic compound.
