PURPOSE:To improve the safety, in a motor driven tilt steering apparatus where a movable bracket for bearing the steering shaft is inclined through driving of a motor and a reduction gear, by providing a clutch mechanism to be interrupted upon exceeding of transmission torque over a setting level in the reduction gear. CONSTITUTION:A motor tilt steering apparatus is provided with a movable bracker 12 inclinable up and down around a shaft 13 through driving of a drive unit A, where said movable bracket 12 is bearing the steering shaft 15. The drive unit A will rotate the screw shaft 51 of the screw nut mechanism 50 through a reduction gear 40 upon driving of a motor 30, thus to advance/retract a nut 52 to be screwed over said shaft 51 and to incline the movable bracket 12 through a link mechanism 60. In such an apparatus, a clutch mechanism 70 for producing slippage between the gear and a friction board pressure contacting against one side of said gear upon exceeding of the transmission torque over predetermined level is provided in the reduction gear 40 comprising a warm and a wheel for gearing with said warm. |
