<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the operability in an interpretation system to be used when a user and a person with whom the user converses, varying in the languages to be used, converse with each other. <P>SOLUTION: The user who is a Japanese speaker keeps an input switch turned ON during the period when the user himself or herself utters a speech and the user keeps the switch turned OFF during the other period. While the input switch 103 is ON, the speech data outputted form a speech input section 101 is outputted to a Japanese speech recognizing section 104 in a switching section 102. While the input switch 103 is OFF and when the respective sections 104 to 109 are not under processing, the speech data inputted from the input section 101 is outputted to an English speech recognizing section 107.
