PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide carbon black which expresses an excellent abrasion resistance under the condition of low to high severity and is also superior in low heat buildup, enabling it to be suitably used for a tire tread of vehicles such as a truck, a bus and the like, and to provide a rubber composition. SOLUTION: The carbon black has a CTAB specific surface area of 110-160 m<SP>2</SP>/g, 24M4DBP (dibutyl phthalate) absorption of 90-140 cm<SP>3</SP>/100 g, and whose true specific gravity satisfies the formula 1: true specific gravity≤0.0005×24M4 DBP+1.6957, and the ratio between the model diameter of agglomerated particles (D<SB>mod</SB>) and its half width (D<SB>1/2</SB>) of (D<SB>1/2</SB>)/(D<SB>mod</SB>) and 75% frequency value of the diameters of agglomerated particles D<SB>75</SB>(nm) satisfy the formula 2: D<SB>75</SB>≤33.333×[(D<SB>1/2</SB>)/(D<SB>mod</SB>)]+81.667. The rubber composition is obtained by compounding 20-150 pts.wt. of the carbon black with 100 pts.wt. of a rubber. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
