PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture an optical fiber having an expanded core section without degrading the strength of the optical fiber. SOLUTION: A section 3a removed of a coating is formed by fixing the optical fiber 10 coated with a polyimide resin by means of an optical fiber holding tool H from above the resin coating, partly heating the optical fiber by means of a microtorch P for burning a gaseous mixture composed of gaseous propane and oxygen to remove the resin coating by heat and the expanded core section 1a is formed by causing the thermal diffusion of the core. Accordingly, the absence of the flaw by mechanical external forces leads to the lessened degradation in the strength of the optical fiber. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
