PURPOSE:To efficiently execute an editing operation by displaying parts other than the objective program part of editing process as well together with the objective part in a display unit compressing the parts to a degree by which the general aspect of the program can be understood. CONSTITUTION:A program display data editing section 3 detects a part of program presently referred to out of source program 3 which is an object of edition, and outputs the detected part of the program to a display terminal 1 keeping it program data form as it is. Remaining program part is displayed in the terminal 1 as a program form compressed properly in one or plural levels by a program data compressing section 6 according to distance from the detected program part. Thus, efficient editing operation can be performed while using the display of small display capacity compared with the size of the program.
