PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive and readily producible fluid for traction drive having good low-temperature fluidity, a high viscosity index and excellent performances over the wide temperature range of low to high temperatures. SOLUTION: The fluid for the traction drive comprises a di-(cycloalkyl)- alkylcyclohexane or a di(cycloalkyl)-cyclohexane represented by general formula (1) (wherein, R<SP>1</SP>denotes a hydrogen or a 1-4C alkyl group; and R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>denote each independently a 4-7C cycloalkyl group which may have a substituent).
